#WATERMELON Rind Pickles

Ataya ~ "It's summer time !! Watermelon was on sale and I ate a lot of it. This is the way to made pickle from watermelon rind. Let's see ... "

1. Gathering all ingredients.As describe below.
  • Watermelon Rind (スイカの皮) 1/2 watermelon ~ 0 Baht
  • Sugar (砂糖) 1/2 cup ~ 5 Baht 
  • Salt(塩) 2-3 table spoons ~ 2 Baht
Total cost = 7 Baht


2. Clean up watermelon rind. Get off the watermelon mesocarp that left over. 

3. Peel off the green part.

4. Wash them with clean water.

5. Add them to close container, add salt and sugar into hot water then pour syrup into a container. Keep it on room temperature for about 3-4 days.

6. Here it is !! Watermelon rind pickles !!

#WATERMELON Rind Preserve

Ataya ~ "Did you know that watermelon rind has good benefit for your health. So, I made my own preserve watermelon to eat as a sweet. Let's see ..."

1. Gathering all ingredients.As describe below.

  • Watermelon Rind (スイカの皮) 1/2 watermelon ~ 0 Baht
  • Sugar (砂糖) 1/2 cup ~ 5 Baht 
  • Palm Sugar (パームシュガー) 2 table spoons  ~ 10 Baht
  • Seasoning(調味料)[salt(塩),cinnamon(シナモン)] ~ 1 Baht 
Total cost = 16 Baht


2. Clean up watermelon rind. Get off the watermelon mesocarp that left over. 

3. Peel off the green part.

4. Boiling the rind until it turned clear. Remove the rind and let it dry.


5. Boiling water, sugar, palm sugar and little bit of salt and cinnamon. 

6. Add the rind back and keep stir until it turned candy.

7. Keep the watermelon rind in open container and wait until it dried. 

8. Finally , Put it in close container and keep it in cool place. Enjoy !!
